In collaboration with Lithgow District Car Club, we are running a khanacross at their club home ground in Lithgow. The surface consists of purpose built crushed road base/dirt and tests will be conducted in a wide open space. We will run a minimum of 8 tests, 4 larger patterns twice, each time counts.

Facilities include toilets, club house and canteen.

Entries are open to anyone holding a non-speed (or greater) Motorsport Australia licence. This round will not be counted towards the club championship and is a great chance to deveop driver skills and experience car control on a new surface.

We are planning on organising a social dinner in the area on Saturday night and the Lithgow District Car Club is running their own Club Khanacross on the following day, with different terrain and courses, which WRX Club members are also welcome to enter.

The cost is $50 for adults and $25 for Juniors (14-18 years). Entries are limited and are open now.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What is Khanacross? Khanacross is a grassroots motorsport event that challenges drivers to navigate a timed course laid out with obstacles on unsealed or mixed surfaces. It’s a step up from motorkhana in terms of course length and average speed, offering a great way to build your car control, braking technique, and ability to read and respond to terrain changes.

What surfaces can I expect at the Lithgow Khanacross Driver Training?
This year’s event will be held at Yvonne Martine Memorial Motorsport Park in Lithgow, a flat, open space surfaced with compacted road base. Road base is finer than gravel but coarser than dirt, offering low traction that’s ideal for practicing controlled slides and improving your handling skills in slippery conditions.

What kind of tests will be run on the day?
There will be four driving sessions throughout the day, each featuring a single large course marked out with cones, plastic bollards, and tyres. Before each session, drivers will complete a reconnaissance run to familiarise themselves with the layout.
Please note: Saturday’s training will take place entirely on the open road base area. The forest sections of the venue will not be used during training, but may be available on Sunday at the Lithgow District Car Club’s club-level event.

What type of car is suitable for Khanacross?
Khanacross welcomes all kinds of vehicles—from compact hatches to AWD performance cars. For this event, a standard ride height is perfectly adequate due to the flat nature of the course. Subarus are particularly popular thanks to their AWD capabilities. Just remember to keep your windows up to avoid a dust-filled interior, and be ready to give your car a good wash afterwards!

Do I need any special gear?

Yes — helmets and long-sleeve clothing are mandatory for all drivers and passengers on the day. This includes a properly fitted helmet that meets current Motorsport Australia regulations, along with a long-sleeve shirt and long pants (no shorts or short sleeves). Enclosed shoes are also required.

No helmet, no long sleeves, no drive.
